Nurses Notes

2 Corinthians 1:3-4Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Welcome Fall, a time of new beginnings for so many areas in our lives. New school years start, classes for young and old alike at GSLC, perhaps learning a new skill or hobby in a night course. After a hot summer, the cooler days will be a blessing to many, and usher in our mind set for learning.

With learning in mind, in the upcoming months I look forward to facilitating some learning opportunities using our CPR mannequins and also our newly purchased defibrillator practice unit that was purchased with a very generous contribution from Randy Koopman.

The real defibrillator unit for GSLC is located on the wall just outside the sanctuary, and is maintained and checked yearly through funding by the Health Ministry. As more and more stores, schools and public places install theses lifesaving units, I encourage each of you to have some experience as to how these units, designed for use by the lay public, actually work.

Recommendations have also changed for community CPR to chest compressions only, as there is enough oxygen in our blood for short term CPR without the public’s concern for “mouth to mouth”. Armed with our new knowledge, any one of us may be key in saving a life.

Stay tuned for practice times, as we look at both Wednesday’s and Sunday mornings to make the practice units available to everyone at GSLC.

May the peace of our Lord be with you all, Lois
