4th Wednesday in Lent
Why do you stay and continue to participate in good Shepherd?
After a more than two year commitment to the Call Committee, the struggles, disappointments and hopeful confirmation of our new pastor, I find myself more than ever wanting to be a part of a vibrant, caring and most importantly grounded in the Gospel congregation.
As I was thinking about what it means to be a member of Good Shepherd, I am reminded of Matthew 18:19-20. “Again I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”
I always enjoy being in church with like-minded individuals, to pray and worship together, to be challenged with difficult concepts from the Bible, to feel sometimes as if the sermon were written just to speak to me.
Pastoral leadership has always been a key for me, and being on the call committee challenged each of us to work outside of ourselves to find the pastor who would continue what has already been well established. To continue this challenge as we transition to our new leadership, I look forward to how the co-pastor role will benefit not only our pastors, but by extension us as a congregation, and with the goal to continue to work both within and outside our walls and do the work our Lord asks us to do.
I want to continue to feel challenged to not just be a member but to be active and engaged in a flourishing congregation, and I see that as a continuing goal for not only our pastors but also me as part of this congregation.
Heavenly Father, I ask for your continued blessing on the hearts and minds of all those who call Good Shepherd their church home. I thank you for each member of the Call Committee, for their friendship, their courage, and their ability to listen to what God had in store for us, even when it wasn’t always clear. I ask for a smooth transition for our new pastor, a vibrant working relationship between our two pastors, and some well-deserved time of rest for Pastor Jeff. I thank you also for the support, spiritual strength and kindness of Pastor John in the interim pastoral role. We have so much to be grateful for at Good Shepherd, And I thank you for all of our blessings. Amen
