Day 8

2nd Thursday in Lent

How does Good Shepherd help you serve others?

1 Peter 4:10 (NRSV) – 10 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”

When asked to write a response to the question, “Why should we serve others?” most of the students relied on some form of the Golden Rule.

Amanda:     You want to treat people the way they treat you.

Camille:       We want to be treated the way we treat others, and because it is God’s will
                    and promise.

Caitlin:         It is the kind and right thing to do.

Dana:          If they are in need, helping them would lighten their mood and they would

                    be happy.

Dylan:         You would want people to help you and some people need more help
                    than you.

Griffin:        The Golden Rule says to treat others the way you want to be treated.

Isie:              We should serve them so we can be acceptable to God.

Mia:             They would feel welcome if they ever came here and to make them happy.

Sarah:          Treat others the way you want to be treated, so their lives can get easier.

Tyler:           To help them with their lives.

Vontavian:  To be kind and help them believe.

Praise God, our Sunday School Stewardship mantra of “Helping, Caring and Sharing” is alive and well in the hearts of our middle school students.  The next step is to ensure they understand that we serve because that is what Jesus taught us by his example.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your inspiration to serve those in need; and for the example that your son Jesus has become for us.  Continue to foster service as a part of our daily lives as members of Good Shepherd; and deepen our desire to be helpers, carers, and sharers.  Amen.
