I looked up and I saw my Lord a-rising, (X2) from the grave. Refrain

Refrain: Al-le-lu-ia, He is com-ing, al-le-lu-ia, He is here. (X2)

This is the day that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it!

This is the day that the Lord has made.
Today we slow down.
Today we take it all in.
Today we rest in good news.

This is the day that the Lord has made.
Today we are singing.
Today we are full to the brim.
Today joy cannot be contained.

This is the day that the Lord has made.
Today the stone was rolled away.
Today the women saw the empty grave.
Today we know—death does not win.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

  1. Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia
    Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia
Suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia
  2. Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia
Unto Christ our heavenly king, Alleluia
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia
Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia
  3. But the pains which He endured, Alleluia
    Our salvation have procured, Alleluia
Now above the sky He’s king, Alleluia
Where the angels ever sing, Alleluia
  4. Sing we to our God above, Alleluia
Praise eternal as His love, Alleluia
Praise Him all you heavenly host, Alleluia
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; Alleluia

God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A reading from Isaiah.

17For I am about to create new heavens
and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.

18But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight.

19I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress.

20No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.

21They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

22They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

23They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the LORD — and their descendants as well.

24Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear.

25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent — its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the LORD.

Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

A reading from Acts.

34Peter began to speak to the people: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. 37That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL LUKE 24: 1-12

The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 24th chapter.

1On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they went in, they did not find the body. 4While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. 5The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. 6Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.” 8Then they remembered his words, 9and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest.

10Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. 12But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

The Lord Almighty Reigns

Hallelujah, hallelujah; hallelujah, the Lord reigns

Hallelujah, hallelujah; hallelujah, the Lord Almighty reigns (chorus)

He has shown His awesome power, He has triumphed mightily

He’s the victor over darkness and the grave
He has broken chains that bound us, He has set the prisoner free
By His own great mercy we are saved (chorus) (verse) (chorus X2)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

O Lord, Hear My Prayer

O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer: when I call answer me.
O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer, come and listen to me.

On this most holy day, let us pray to God for the church, the earth, and all in need, that the whole world may know the resurrection that God promises to give.

Hallelujah, O God!  On this day, you raised from death our Lord, Jesus Christ!  Pour the life of his resurrection into your Church.

Hallelujah, O Risen Christ!  Your new life was revealed to us in a garden. Make us your co-workers in creation, and bring your resurrection life to dead zones, extinct species, and paved paradises.

Hallelujah, O Holy Spirit, on this day, the hearts of the disciples burned within them with resurrection joy.  Set us on fire with that gospel good news, so that we may spread peace and justice in every nation.  Everywhere, may your reign come!

Hallelujah, O Great healer, on this day, the disciples who were overwhelmed by fear found you in their midst.  Be with all those trapped by hunger, sickness, addiction, grief, and the specter of death.  Stan, Dominic, Francesca, Carolyn, Martin, Pat, Bill, Loretta, James, Arthur, Michael, McKenna, Maria, Betty, Alyssa, Jay, Michael, Karen, Phil, all those affected by addiction, all those affected by mental illness and all military personnel and first responders.

Hallelujah, O God most high, on this day, Jesus became the firstborn of the dead.  We praise you for the faithful who have followed the way he forged, and ask that you bring us all through death into the life of your resurrection.

Hallelujah, O God, we praise your human life. We celebrate your grace. We stand in awe of your power. Transform all that is dying with the joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

The Peace of the Lord be with you all. And also with you

As we celebrate Christ’s great gift of death and resurrection, we offer our own gifts and express our Easter joy in God’s triumphant resurrection.

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might
Heaven and earth are filled With Your glory (repeat)

Hosanna, hosanna, in the highest,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord

Our Father in heaven,  hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come,  your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins  as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial  and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power,  and the glory are yours,  now and forever. Amen.

This Table is an expansive Table, and those who are often excluded are especially invited. There is food for everyone. There is a seat for everyone. There is love for everyone. There is no scarcity here, because this is God’s Table, so all are welcome. Amen.

At this table, Christ is both host and meal, and offers himself to all who hunger and thirst for his presence.
We believe that he is truly present in this sacrament.
Come to the front, where bread is placed in your hand (you can request a gluten-free wafer), and where you receive wine by taking a cup from the tray (the cups in the center contain white grape juice).
If you do not wish to commune, you are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing.
If you need to receive communion in your seat, simply notify an usher.
No one is too young to receive this sacrament, though some families wish to give their children some instruction before they take their first communion. If a young child accompanies you, please indicate to the pastor whether they should receive bread or a blessing.

My shame He’s taken away, my pain is healed in His name; I believe, I believe
I’ll raise a banner, ‘cause my Lord has conquered the grave!

Chorus: My redeemer lives, my redeemer lives
My redeemer lives, my redeemer lives (verse) (chorus)

You lift my burden, and I rise with You I’m dancing on this mountain top, to see Your kingdom come (chorus X3)
